Azcon Corporation, Chicago, Ill, 1980-1997, Vice President, Rail Products Division

Responsibilities: The rail division dismantles abandoned railroads throughout the United States and Canada. As division vice president I was responsible for estimating and integrating a marketing plan, labor and transportation costs into the bidding process. Upon award, I hired contractors to dismantle the product, initiated transportation contracts, and sold the generated materials. Integral to each project was the proper disposal of the ties—a significant EPA issue; repair of road crossings; and disassembling of bridge structures. As many as ten projects could be ongoing concurrently, encompassing the hiring of 12 to 15 independent contractors and over 200 employees.  All projects required continual comprehensive contact and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies (often overlapping) responsible for land usage, road, and waterways.
