Founder and Lead Appraiser

Rich Shure has over 29 years of experience in the railroad industry. Seventeen of those years were with Azcon Corporation, in the Railroad Products Division. As vice president in charge of that division he was directly involved in dismantling over 3000 track miles of abandoned railroads throughout the United States and Canada. He was responsible for the pre-bid line inspections, estimating and integrating a marketing plan, as well as labor and transportation costs, into the bidding process. Upon bid award, he hired contractors to dismantle the product, initiated transportation contracts, and sold the generated materials into the market place. Integral to each project was the proper disposal of the ties—a significant EPA issue; repair of road crossings; and disassembling of bridge structures. He had continual, comprehensive contact and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies (often overlapping) responsible for land usage, roads, and waterways. Railroad cars, locomotives, and usable parts were also bought and sold by the rail division under his direction.

Since 1997 he has been a principal of Rail Appraisals, providing line inspections, line appraisals and related engineering services to the railroad industry.

Mr. Shure is a Registered Professional Engineer with an AAS in Automotive Technology, a BS in Industrial Engineering, a MS in Public Administration, and A Ph. D. in Public Policy.
